For high-achieving women childlessness is not a choice, the vast majority of these women did not chose to be childless. Among high-achieving women aged 41-55 only 1% had a first child after age 39. And among ultra-achievers, no one had a first child after age 36. Most of the women in each group who were mothers had their first child in their early to mid 20's.
Despite the fact that 21% of women in the 28-40 age group have experienced fertility problems, 89% of young, high-achieving women believe that they will be able to get pregnant into their forties. That may not be the case!
MY STORY:
I had always believed that I would have a family and kept putting it off believing there would be time. I had been building businesses all my life and it never seemed to be the right time to have children. Then, when my husband and I finally decided to have children, we found ourselves two years later and still not pregnant.
I had believed the media, I felt like I had way into my 40's to get pregnant. I never realized that getting pregnant after 35 was harder than expected. I never believed that I could have a fertility issue...but age causes that!
